Fullstory alternative: open-source session replay your AI agent sets up and reads

Fullstory is digital experience analytics: session replay with product analytics, warehouse sync, mobile apps and StoryAI. FullstoryFree covers 30,000 sessions a month for up to 10 users; paid plans are priced on request (as of 7 November 2026). AgentFirstStack Replay is free, open-source replay an AI agent sets up and reads itself: masked in the browser by default, each session as a transcript, with heatmaps, errors and surveys over REST and MCP. Choose Fullstory for product analytics at scale, a data warehouse, mobile apps, single sign-on or a year of history.

Set it up with one prompt

Paste this into your coding agent. Fullstory stays installed while you compare, and its privacy classes keep working in both tools.

Set up AgentFirstStack Replay on this project, next to Fullstory. It's free, open-source session replay built for agents, masked in the visitor's browser by default, and you can do the setup yourself: there is no signup form. 1. Read https://agentfirststack.com/llms.txt and https://replay.agentfirststack.com/llms.txt. 2. Find where Fullstory is installed (its snippet in the page, or a tag in Google Tag Manager), which elements carry its privacy classes (.fs-exclude, .fs-unmask), and where the code identifies users to it. Tell me what you found and change nothing in Fullstory. 3. If this project's .env already has AGENTFIRSTSTACK_API_KEY, use it and read AGENTFIRSTSTACK.md. Otherwise get a key: curl -X POST https://agentfirststack.com/v1/signup, and save api_key in .env as AGENTFIRSTSTACK_API_KEY and in the production secrets. 4. Create a replay site for the production domain with require_consent "eea". Link analytics_site_id if the site runs AgentFirstStack analytics; otherwise add the snippet from the install answer. Serve it from the site's own domain (a first-party domain, or the path proxy until its DNS record is live). 5. Keep mask_mode strict and unmask only interface text (nav, buttons, links, headings, labels). Add ".fs-exclude" to block_selectors so what Fullstory never captures isn't recorded here either. Where the code identifies a user to Fullstory, also call afsr('identify', userId) with the same id; if that id is an email, set hash_user_ids to true. 6. Deploy, open the homepage with ?afsr=1 and click through the main pages, then run verify and fix what it reports. 7. Leave Fullstory installed: its recordings can't be moved. Write the replay site id and the env var name (never the key) in AGENTFIRSTSTACK.md, and create a claim link for me with POST https://agentfirststack.com/v1/claim-link. Tell me what you set up, what verify returned, what Fullstory does here that replay won't, and give me the claim link.

What Fullstory is

Fullstory calls itself "The Intelligent Digital Experience Company" (as of 7 Nov 2026). It sells three products: Analytics (session replay and product analytics), Workforce (how employees use their internal tools) and Anywhere, which sends behavioral data to a warehouse (Warehouse) or into real-time personalization (Activation). It's deeper than a replay tool. The plan comparison on its pricing page lists product analytics (funnels, page flow analysis, journeys, retention analysis, conversion analysis, dashboards, metrics), live session viewing and co-browsing, "AI-Powered Fullcapture", "Retroactive Data History", server-side event capture, data export, webhooks, a Consent API, role-based access control, restrictions by IP, location and user agent, and SAML single sign-on.

Fullstory doesn't publish prices for its paid plans. From its pricing page, as of 7 Nov 2026:

  • Warehouse sync: Anywhere: Warehouse sends data to Amazon Redshift, Amazon S3, Azure Blob Storage, BigQuery, Databricks, Google Cloud Storage and Snowflake, and "syncs with destinations on an hourly interval" (developer docs, as of 7 Nov 2026).
  • Privacy: Fullstory says "Excluded and masked content never leaves the user's device". Accounts created since 10 November 2021 get Form Privacy rules that mask text-entry and dropdown fields and exclude radio buttons and checkboxes; Private by Default, which keeps all text in the browser unless it's allowlisted, "can be turned on via request to our Support team" (Private by Default, as of 7 Nov 2026).
  • Mobile apps: "Available with Mobile add-on", with SDKs for iOS and Android and capture in Flutter, Cordova and Capacitor apps (Fullstory for Mobile Apps, as of 7 Nov 2026).
  • Agent access: the Fullstory MCP is "available to all paying customers" and on by default; it builds "segments, metrics, funnels, and journeys", pulls the sessions behind them, and reviews sessions from rendered screenshots (Fullstory MCP). It signs in with OAuth or an API key, and StoryAI features must be enabled or no tools appear (developer docs, as of 7 Nov 2026).

How AgentFirstStack Replay does it

AgentFirstStack Replay is narrower than Fullstory and built for a different reader. It records websites, masks them strictly, and gives your agent each session as text, so the agent can find out why visitors drop off and report back.

  1. The agent creates everything. POST /v1/signup returns a key on a new account, POST https://replay.agentfirststack.com/v1/sites creates the site, and verify checks the install on the live homepage. REST and MCP work on every account from the first request; there's no plan to upgrade to.
  2. Strict by default. Every text node and typed value is masked in the browser before it's sent, and your agent unmasks interface text only. No cookies, no IP address stored, and with require_consent: "eea" nothing recorded from EEA, UK or Swiss visitors until they consent.
  3. Sessions as text. Transcripts of pages, labelled clicks, masked inputs, scroll depth, errors and rage, dead and error clicks; summaries across up to 1,000 sessions; click, scroll and attention heatmaps as data; errors grouped by fingerprint; funnel drop-offs; segments; metrics over time; and events defined after the fact from clicks already recorded.
  4. Surveys built in. NPS, CSAT, CES, product-market fit and free-text surveys on the site's own pages, triggered on exit intent or after a rage click, each answer linked to its session.
  5. Product analytics next door. It's one service of four. AgentFirstStack analytics, on the same key, has funnels, journeys, retention cohorts, path exploration, attribution and revenue, and replay sends its signals there as events. That's useful depth, but it isn't Fullstory's single product analytics suite with retroactive autocapture.
  6. Data out. Sessions export as CSV or NDJSON, raw rrweb events as NDJSON, and survey answers, new errors and signal spikes go out as signed webhooks. There's no warehouse sync.

The hosted service is free: 5 replay sites per project, 200 recorded sessions per site a day, sessions up to 30 minutes, recordings kept 14 days (fair-use limits). Self-hosted, retention goes up to 365 days. Details on the session replay page.

When to choose which

Choose Fullstory if

  • Product and analytics teams need funnels, journeys, retention and conversion analysis in one tool, built from autocaptured data they can query after the fact.
  • Behavioral data has to land in Snowflake, BigQuery, Databricks or another warehouse every hour.
  • You record native or hybrid mobile apps.
  • You need a year of history, co-browsing, role-based access or SAML single sign-on, or a vendor with onboarding and consulting services.
  • A free plan of 30,000 sessions a month for up to 10 people fits, and people rather than an agent will read the sessions: Fullstory's MCP is for paying customers.

Choose AgentFirstStack Replay if

  • An agent should set replay up, verify it and read the sessions, on an account it creates itself.
  • You want the agent to answer "why do visitors drop off" from transcripts, heatmaps, errors and survey answers, not a person watching videos.
  • You want strict masking from the first session, no cookies and consent handled for the EEA, the UK and Switzerland.
  • You want it free, open source and self-hostable, with analytics, tags and inboxes on the same key.

Moving from Fullstory

  • Recordings don't move. There's no import of another tool's recordings. Keep Fullstory until you no longer need its history.
  • Privacy classes carry over. The replay site's selectors are CSS selectors, so .fs-exclude in block_selectors keeps those elements out of both tools. Review .fs-unmask before copying it to unmask_selectors: there it shows text only, never typed values.
  • Identity carries over. Where the code identifies a user to Fullstory, afsr('identify', userId, attrs) attaches the same id and attributes to the replay session, hashed in the browser if you set hash_user_ids. If the site sends events to Segment, Mixpanel or Amplitude, the install answer's with_tools snippets add the replay session id to them.
  • The setup check knows. When the tags scan finds Fullstory on the site, the setup check's "other tools" row lists it as staying until its recordings expire. Your agent removes Fullstory's code only when you say so.

FAQ

How much does Fullstory cost?

As of 7 November 2026, Fullstory's pricing page lists no prices for its Business, Advanced and Enterprise plans: each says Request pricing & demo. Mobile, StoryAI, Guides and Surveys and Multi-Org Management are add-ons. FullstoryFree costs nothing. AgentFirstStack Replay's hosted service is free with fair-use limits.

Does Fullstory have a free plan?

Yes. FullstoryFree needs no credit card and includes 30,000 sessions a month, 12 months of data retention and up to 10 users, with session replay, basic analytics and debugging tools. Dashboards and StoryAI need a paid plan.

Does Fullstory have an MCP server?

Yes. Fullstory's help center says its MCP is available to all paying customers and on by default; its developer docs say StoryAI features must be enabled for tools to appear. It builds segments, metrics, funnels and journeys and pulls the sessions behind them. AgentFirstStack's MCP works on every account, including one your agent just created.

Can AgentFirstStack replace Fullstory completely?

For website replay, heatmaps, errors and surveys that an agent reads, yes. Not for product analytics at Fullstory's depth, sync to a data warehouse, mobile apps, co-browsing, SAML single sign-on or a year of history: Fullstory does those and AgentFirstStack Replay doesn't.

Can I move my Fullstory recordings?

No. AgentFirstStack can't import recordings from Fullstory or any other replay tool. Keep Fullstory installed until you no longer need its history, and keep its privacy classes working by adding .fs-exclude to the replay site's block_selectors.

Product names belong to their owners. AgentFirstStack isn't affiliated with Fullstory.
